Real Madrid will delay Asensio's contract talk until January

Real Madrid currently does not have a specific plan to start negotiations to renew Asensio's contract.

Real Madrid plans to delay negotiations on the future of Marco Asensio until after the World Cup.

The Spanish midfielder, whose contract with the club ends in June 2023, can freely negotiate with other clubs from January. He does not have a place in Carlo Ancelotti's squad and the Italian coach stated that there are no special plans for talks with him behind the scenes.

Ancelotti said:

"We haven’t talked about the issue of Asensio’s contract. He has played little but when he does, he shows that he can do it. He has been decisive and he will have more minutes in the future, and after the World Cup we will talk about his contractual position.”

Currently, Ancelotti prefers to play Rodrigo over Asensio and the Spanish midfielder came on in the final minutes of the recent El Clasico. However, he performed well in the limited time he had and scored 2 goals in the 100 minutes he played. Rumors suggest that Manchester United are monitoring his situation.

Asensio joined Real Madrid in 2014 and returned to Real Madrid after spending two seasons on loan in Mallorca and Espanyol. He played 245 games for the club and scored 51 goals.
