Reece James after the knee injury: "The race against time is on"

Reece James will be sidelined for eight weeks, but he hasn't lost up on making England's World Cup roster.

Despite being ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury,

Reece James

has not given up on his World Cup hopes.

James was substituted during

Chelsea

's 2-0 Champions League victory against

Milan

last midweek, and the Blues announced on Saturday that the right-back will undertake a two-month "rehabilitation course."

That would prevent him from participating in England's World Cup campaign in Qatar, which begins on November 22 against Iran.  However, James does not appear to have written off his chances of joining Gareth Southgate's side. The 22-year-old wrote on Twitter: Posting on Twitter, the 22-year-old said: "The race against time is on… But we won't give up."

Southgate has a challenge on the right side of the defence before the tournament, as

Trent Alexander-Arnold

and

Kyle Walker

are also dealing with injuries.

Walker faces a race against time to recover from thigh surgery in time to make the squad, while Alexander-Arnold has struggled for form this season and is out with an ankle injury.
