Xavi and Pedri on Barcelona’s loss against Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich won the battle against Barcelona in the Champions League with a 2-0 result, courtesy of goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane. Barca coach Xavi urged his team to learn from the errors and Pedri said that the result did not tell the “true story”.

was moderate. However, they were able to seal a victory for themselves when Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane found the back of the net in five minutes. Because of those goals, the game turned in favor of the Bundesliga side.

Robert Lewandowski, who was returning to Bayern Munich for the first time following his move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window, also missed chances to score for his new side. Xavi Hernandez, the Barca boss, said that despite the many chances his side had to score, they were not able to find the target and they need to work harder to be able to make it through the group stage of the Champions League.

Xavi talked to

, saying: "

We made six or seven big goal chances but missed them and Bayern took their opportunity. We competed, we played very well and had we scored it would have been a completely different match. This is the Champions League though; you need to compete and you try to avoid the marking error at the corner which let them go 1-0 up."

"Losing is a backwards step but we're still in the group. We came here wanting and intending to win. We need to learn from our errors. I think that we produced a good match overall - good enough to win, not draw."

Xavi also insisted that his side should learn from their mistakes in their game against Bayern and avoid repeating them.

"No way should our rival be allowed to score from a failure of marking at a corner when we have the match under control. Or to score down the middle on a counter attack. We must learn from these mistakes.

"We can't let them off the hook so much. I'm leaving here pretty hacked off because this was a night to win. But I'm also feeling proud of the team. However, it's about winning and we'll need to compete better in crucial moments like the two goals and to be more effective when we create chances."

Barcelona midfielder Pedri also commented on his side’s loss at the hands of Bayern, saying that the result of the game did not do the game justice as they had many chances to score.

"This result doesn't tell the true story. Our first half display merited much more than 0-0 at half time. We had opportunities to go ahead,"

he said.

He also added:

"But of course if you fail to put chances away against a big rival like Bayern, you'll end up paying. They went ahead from our marking mistake at the corner. But it's time to get on with things now - and to remember that we produced a very good first half."
