Raul de Tomas signs for Rayo Vallecano

The Spanish star will sit on the bench for half of the season and then be allowed to play.

Raul De Tomas

has joined the club from

Espanyol

to end one of the most controversial transfer deals of the summer,

Rayo Vallecano

have announced.

Espanyol were hoping not to sell de Tomas for less than €30 million and had publicly announced that they would want €75 million if they were to sell him. However, after falling out with manager Diego Martinez, things changed and both sides were considering ending the partnership.

Despite Rayo Vallecano trying to sign him at the end of the transfer window, no agreement was reached between the two clubs until the end of the window. This caused a physical conflict between Ivan Garcia,  de Tomas' agent, and Raul Martin Presa, Rayo's president, which ended up sending Rayo's boss to the hospital.

But even this didn't stop the transfer and de Tomas signed a 5-year contract with the club where he played for two seasons between 2017 and 2019.

This transfer is the most expensive transfer in the history of Rayo, with 8 million plus 3 million add-ons. This amount, of course, is significantly less than the expected amount of Espanyol. The Spanish star will not be able to play for his new team until January due to the timing of the transfer, and most likely, he will be left out of Spain's squad for the World Cup.

He scored 45 goals in 89 games for Espanyol and has been one of the key players of his team in recent seasons.
