Chelsea target extends his contract with Leipzig

Chelsea failed to sign the Croatian defender in the summer transfer window.

Josko Gvardiol

extended his contract with RB Leipzig and announced that he never intended to leave the club.

Chelsea

wanted to sign Gvardiol and it was said that they have considered an offer of 90 million euros for this transfer. However, they failed to sign the Croatian star and the former

Dinamo Zagreb

player extended his contract with the German side until 2027. Gvardiol was one of 4 Bundesliga defenders last season to play at least 50 games, recover 200 balls and not make a mistake that ended in a goal.

The Croatian said:

"I really enjoy being here and I wanted to stay here. We have a lot of work to do and a lot to achieve here. We have a good team and we're ready.

"We're in the Champions League and won the DFB-Pokal last season. We want to compete for trophies once again.

"I'm grateful to the club for counting on me and planning with me long-term."
