Van Dijk: Firmino showed he's world class

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has praised Roberto Firmino after a 9-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Liverpool

equaled the biggest victory in Premier League history as they thrash newly promoted Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino

scored two goals and provided three assists in this match. He became the 19th player to reach the milestone of 100 goals in all competitions in Liverpool history.

“We know the quality he has and we never doubt him,”

Van Dijk told reporters after the game.

“He wants to perform in the best way possible because he has the quality. Today he showed again why he is a world-class player.”

Van Dijk

also hopes Liverpool can build on the thumping victory over Bournemouth.

He said:

“Yes. After the game you want the next game to come and it was good for us that we only had to wait four days so that everyone was motivated.

“Luckily we had no injuries the week before and that was a nice change. Clearly great performance.

“A bit of luck (earlier in the season was missing). I don’t know. It’s hard to say for me.

“We all wanted to perform, we all wanted to get results, but you know, I don’t like to look back, I like to look forward.

“Today was a good start, a good win, something to build on, but we’re never guaranteed to break through from here.

“That’s what we want, that’s what we’re working for and that’s what we’ll try to do and it starts on Monday.”
