Ryan Giggs had eight affairs behind Kate Greville's back, court hears

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is accused of using controlling and coercive behavior against ex-girlfriend Kate Greville.

Giggs is accused of using controlling and coercive behavior against ex-girlfriend Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020. He is also charged with assaulting her younger sister, Emma Greville, at his home on November 1, 2020.

Giggs was first arrested in the case and released on bail in November 2020. Giggs has pleaded not guilty to the charges and his lawyer said the allegations were “based on distortion, exaggeration, and lies.”

star resigned in June as manager of the Wales national team following a period of leave since November 2020.

On Monday a prosecutor told a Court that Giggs has "deliberately headbutted" his ex-girlfriend in 2020.

Kate Greville told a court on Tuesday that in the lead-up to the alleged assault in November 2020 she had learned Giggs had "full-on relationships" with eight women while they were together.

The police interview with Kate Greville was shown to the jury. It was recorded after the alleged assault at his home in Worsley in November 2020.

Greville says she met Giggs in 2013 while she was working for a PR agency. She was married at the time. In the police interview, she said she wasn't happily married, it was a controlling relationship. Over months Giggs started to show more attention towards her.

She recalled a situation at a club in Dubai where Giggs had first been physically aggressive with her. She said in the middle of 2017 while in the club she asked Giggs if he was messaging another girl on his phone to which he became very angry and “flipped” Greville said. She added that he began to abuse her verbally and stormed out of the club and she followed him. Kate Greville told police that around Christmas 2018, Giggs would become really abusive.

In one alleged incident, she says Giggs threw a bag with her laptop in at her head around Christmas 2019. Kate Greville also accused Giggs of dragging her out of a hotel room in London and locking her out naked after he accused her of flirting with other women.

Prosecutor Peter Wright QC later asked Kate Greville about the alleged events on 1 November 2020.

She and Ryan Giggs went to a hotel that afternoon and her sister was looking after their dog at the house, she says.

She added that she had been living with Giggs since the start of the Covid lockdown. Greville says she and Giggs met friends at the hotel and had dinner there when they had an argument.

She says she was already planning to leave Giggs at a later date when he was due to be away with the Wales football team and she had signed for a flat in secret.

Greville says the argument with Giggs started after she told a friend that a man had asked her out for a date.

She says Giggs asked her why she did not tell the man that she had a boyfriend and he was “angry”. Greville tells the court Giggs kept telling her to apologize.

Kate Greville told the court that Ryan Giggs pushed her backward in the utility room at his home.

She added that she then told her sister they needed to leave and pleaded with Giggs to return her phone so she could call a taxi.

She said that she told Giggs that she would tell the police what happened to which she claimed he then “came forwarded and headbutted me. He grabbed me by my shoulders and headbutted me in my face,” the court heard.

The 10 days trial will resume on Wednesday at 10 am at Manchester Crown Court.
