. He then played for City for nine seasons, the last two as captain. Fernandinho left City at the end of the 2021-22 season. He had played 383 games for the team and won 12 major awards, including five Premier League titles.

And on the last day of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, Fernandinho took to Twitter to say something heartfelt about everyone connected with City. "I saw. My family was happy. In an open letter, he said, "I saw supporters who never forgot where they came from." "I saw how great it was to be part of a team that won. I saw people with titles, stars, and brains. I saw a chance to make my dream come true.

"Then it dawned on me. I realized how important it was for everyone to read this letter. I realized that I had made the best decision of my whole life. I hope that when you think of me in the future, you'll feel the same way I do right now."

He also said, "Athletes, coaches/trainers, laundry staff, kit managers, cleaners, concierge, security team, door staff, advisors, executives, cooks, directors, doctors, masseuses, physiotherapists, sports psychologists, media team, analysts, youth teams, charity teams..."

"I'm sorry if I forgot to mention you, but you know who you are. The end of my contract with Manchester City is today. All I can say is that I did my best, and I'd do it all over again if I could. The story keeps going, and now that I've played for nine years, I'll be a big Cityzen fan for many more titles and wins. "I am sure that many more will come if your daily work is as good as it is now. My memories will last forever," Fernandinho wrote at the end of the letter. Thank you, your captain for life."

The 37-year-old player said before that he turned down many offers to return to Paranaense, which is now managed by Luis Felipe Scolari, who was the coach of both Portugal and Brazil.
