Geyse joins Barcelona after Lucy Bronze's move

Brazil's Geyse Ferreira, who finished tied for first in scoring in the Primera Division last season, has signed with Barcelona.

On Sunday,

Barcelona

added Brazil attacker

Geyse Ferreira

to their already-impressive roster, following the club's eye-catching acquisition of Lucy Bronze. Geyse, at age 24, tied with Asisat Oshoala of Barcelona for the league's scoring title last year.

Geyse made history while playing for the last-place Madrid CFF (of 16 total teams), and she now joins a squad that swept all 30 league matches they played in. Geyse signed a two-year contract with the Barcelona club, witnessed by president

Joan Laporta

and women's football director Xavier Puig.

After her contract with

Manchester City

was not renewed, Barcelona announced England defender

Lucy Bronze

as a key new recruit on Saturday. Geyse is excited about her new home and the challenges it presents after leaving the Spanish city.

Geyse said on Barcelona's official website, "Like every big team, I have always enjoyed playing against Barca." It makes me glad that Oshoala and I tied for the most goals scored this season and that we will be teammates again next year. With my presence, I hope to contribute to the team's success in reaching its goals.

Despite their success at home, Barcelona were unable to successfully defend their Women's Champions League championship last season because French powerhouse

Lyon

defeated them 3-1 in the final in Turin.
