Camavinga on winning the Champions League: It's a dream come true

Eduardo Camavinga thinks he has matured since joining Real Madrid, claiming a "dream" Champions League victory in his first season in Spain.

As he reminisced on a memorable first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, Eduardo Camavinga characterized

final victory as a "dream come true."

Camavinga came in as an 85th-minute replacement at the Stade de France as Madrid won their 14th European title courtesy of Vinicius Junior's goal, giving the French playmaker

and Champions League winner's medals at the conclusion of his first season in Spain.

Camavinga has made 44 appearances in all competitions since signing from Rennes last August, despite being behind seasoned midfield three Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos in the hierarchy pyramid.

The 19-year-old, who has been speculated as a potential superstar for both Los Blancos and France, came off the bench to make a number of important contributions to Madrid's Champions League track, including a particularly vibrant performance as Carlo Ancelotti's side overcame Manchester City in the semi-finals earlier this month after recovering from a 5-3 aggregate deficit.

Camavinga expressed his satisfaction with the "dream" victory to Canal+ following Madrid's 1-0 win against Liverpool, noting that it was for such situations that he joined the Spanish giants.

"It's a crazy thing, it's a childhood dream come true. Touching the cup, experiencing matches like that, it's crazy... That's why I came here," he said.

"From the moment we come here, we know that we are in the best club in the world, we only play big matches. I am very happy to have played in the final and to have won it."

Camavinga still has a long way to go to equal the achievements of some of his Madrid teammates, who won their fifth European crowns in Paris: Karim Benzema, Dani Carvajal, and Luka Modric. Nobody has ever won more.

Camavinga chuckled as he mentioned his colleagues' excellent careers: "Some have five Champions Leagues here, but I already have one, I still have four left [to win]. We're going to enjoy it. Next year, we'll see."

Camavinga, who is 19 years and 199 days old, became the youngest player to play in a Champions League final since Juventus' Kingsley Coman in 2015 final against Barcelona (18 years, 358 days).

Coman is also the only Frenchman youthful than Camavinga to have appeared in a European Cup/Champions League final.

After making 16 starts in his debut season with the club, the midfielder feels he has developed as a player, however, he says his playing time is unimportant to the team's results.

"It's been an incredible season, an extraordinary accomplishment, very positive," he said in comments reported by Marca.

"I've learned a lot in this first year from the players here, from my coaches too, so I think I'm a better player than I was a year ago.

"The first thing to remember is this victory, the work of the team, and [only] after that, whether I've played more or less is important."
