Freiburg 1-1 RB Leipzig (2-4): A day to remember for Tedesco's side

After Marcel Halstenberg was sent off, RB Leipzig beat Freiburg on penalties for their first-ever DFB-Pokal win.

After a 1-1 tie-in regulation time on Saturday in Berlin, the

DFB-Pokal

was decided by a penalty shootout, in which

RB Leipzig

prevailed against Freiburg 4-2 to claim the trophy for the first time in the club's history.

Maximilian Eggestein

's excellent strike gave Freiburg the lead in the nineteenth minute, despite the fact that Roland Sallai had committed a clear handball in the build-up to the play. This allowed

Freiburg

to compete in their first-ever major final.

Marcel Halstenberg was shown a straight red card just before the hour mark for hauling down a clean-through Lucas Holer, but Leipzig were still able to tie the game in the 76th minute thanks to

Christopher Nkunku

. This meant that Leipzig were down to 10 men for the remainder of the match.

In the previous three years,

Domenico Tedesco

's team had lost two finals, but they were finally able to take home the trophy at the Olympiastadion. In the shootout, Freiburg's

Christian Gunter

and Ermedin Demirovic both missed their penalty kicks, which led to the victory for Domenico Tedesco's squad.
