Barcelona to receive capital injection of €200 million

Barcelona football club announced that they’re about to sell 49% of the club’s licensing and merchandising arm (BLM).

The agreement would pay the Catalans a much-needed fee of €200 million.

Barcelona

wants the deal to include a repurchase option.

A consortium headed by Fanatics and Investindustrial is buying the club's assets. Barcelona is currently in around $1.5bn's worth of debt.

The deal will be finalized before June 30 but any contract must first be ratified by the club's members in a special assembly.

€200 million is lower than what Barcelona initially intended to receive from the sale of BLM but after selling

Lionel Messi

they didn't receive a better offer. Messi left as a free agent to Paris Saint Germain last summer due to Barcelona's financial situation.

With this deal, Barca would be able to invest in their squad this summer. They have been linked with Robert Lewandowski who seemingly wants to leave Bayern Munich and come to Camp Nou. Barcelona may also not be forced to sell Frenkie De Jong this summer.

Barcelona is still in talks about a potential agreement on the CVC deal from

LaLiga

and hopes to receive extra income from this deal.
