Milan always believed in Scudetto - Maldini

The Rossoneri director insists that they are always ambitious to win the Serie A title and believed in it, even when others did not. ‘It would be an incredible result.’

Paolo Maldini

was so excited when Sandro Tonali met the back of the net in the stoppage-time last night that he showed his excitement with running down from the stands to hug

Stefano Pioli

and the squad.

They are still in the competition for the title after their 2-1 victory but they also made sure to get a

Champions League

qualification.

“I am very proud of what the team, the staff and everyone else is giving the fans. This true emotion is the core of our work, what makes us happy and provokes such wonderful sensations,”

Maldini told Milan TV.

“In seasons like this, the objective is to do as well as we possibly can. We must aim very high. At the start of the season, many didn’t expect us to be this high up, but we must use that as further motivation.

“The statistics are clear. In order to stay up here and maintain this level, we must also maintain the same spirit of sacrifice. We are here because we always believed… even when we didn’t always announce it, we always believed.”

Maldini made certain that although

Milan

reached their purpose of the season, getting qualified for the Champions League, they do not want to hold back.

“We cannot make this seem like a banal target. In the last 20 years, Milan have won the Scudetto only twice, so it would be an incredible result.

“When you have the opportunity, you’ve got to give it your all. If things don’t go well, at least you know that you tried your best.”
