Pagliuca hints at selling Atalanta majority stake to buy Chelsea

Atalanta co-owner Stephen Pagliuca will make a big and genuine offer to buy Chelsea.

Stephen Pagliuca

, a co-owner of

Atalanta

, has stated that he is willing to make a substantial and credible offer' to buy

Chelsea

from Roman Abramovich.

Although it was announced as a partnership between La Dea and the American investors, Pagliuca's group acquired a majority stake in Atalanta in February. Pagliuca is now determined to make a 'credible offer' to buy Chelsea from

Abramovich

, who has been sanctioned by the British Government in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February.

Pagliuca told

Sky News UK

, "Throughout my life and career, my ethos has always been to operate quietly, with integrity, and let my actions and results speak for themselves."

"However, it is critical to reassure and clarify our bid group's commitments to supporters, emphasizing how seriously we take our potential responsibility to Chelsea." The offer will be substantial and credible,' according to Pagliuca, who is also a co-owner of the NBA team Boston Celtics. According to the report, Pagliuca is willing to sell his Atalanta shares in order to complete the Blues' takeover.

"Our first priority and goal is to make strategic investments so that we can continue to compete for championships and trophies," he said. "Whether in the Premier League, Champions League, or the Women's Super League [the only Super League we want to compete in, for the record], we will support our players and managers to ensure that Chelsea are consistent winners and title challengers."

"We will also continue to invest in the youth academy in order to nurture future stars, and we would not be in this position if we did not have an exciting and inclusive vision for Chelsea. In our more than 20 years as owners of the Boston Celtics, we have never considered changing the team's name, colors, or logo." This is our promise to Chelsea supporters."

Pagliuca told La Gazzetta dello Sport in March about his ambitions for Atalanta's future, conceding that the club and the Boston Celtics have certain parallels. "Because the Percassi are excellent leaders, the project will remain mostly unchanged. Things should continue as they have been. As a result, we must cultivate a winning team, as well as potential and the young sector. We can assist the Atalanta brand in expanding its global fan base."

"As soon as I stepped into the Gewiss Stadium, I realized the club is practically like a religion in town." It was the same as Fenway Park or the Boston Garden. In a stadium with 24,000 seats, with people who have been supporting the team for 40-50 years, the same feeling of affection and love."
