UEFA suspends Roma and Bodo/Glimt coaches after assault allegations

Following assault claims, UEFA has provisionally suspended Kjetil Knutsen, head coach of 

, and Nuno Santos, goalkeeping coach of

's side lost 2-1 in the first leg of their 

Europa League Conference

 quarter-final against Knutsen in Norway last Thursday, Santos was accused of attacking him in the tunnel.

In the aftermath of the event, both clubs issued comments, with Roma stating that they were working with UEFA and local authorities to examine the allegations. The Norwegian champions accused their opponents of "bombarding the media with lies" about the incident, and European football's governing body has since made a judgment. Both coaches will be barred from participating in European matches until the case is resolved by UEFA's Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body.

Bodo/Glimt have since questioned UEFA's judgment, pledging to fight the decision. "UEFA's decision has astonished and shocked us," the club said in a statement. "We'll file an appeal, and we'll work on it all night [Monday]."

Santos allegedly grabbed Knutsen's neck and pushed him against a wall during a violent altercation outside the locker room after the game, and Knutsen detailed how the event left him with a football dilemma. "Events like this inspire me to pursue a career in a different industry." "I even wondered if continuing to work in football was actually a smart option," he told Norwegian site Avisa Nordland.
