Russia withdrew its appeal for UEFA ban

Poland were going to go against Russia but they advanced and will go to Qatar 2022, as the banned nation withdrew the appeal.

Russia

withdrew its appeal for the ban it received from FIFA competition as the qualifying games of the

World Cup

resumed without its national team.

FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian teams after the country invaded Ukraine, which meant Valeri Karpin’s Russia was not able to play in their World Cup play-off against

Poland

in the semi-final.

The Russian Football Union requested for the ban to be postponed, with the game being set for Match; however, the Court of Arbitration for Sport did not accept it.

Poland, therefore, got to the final match with Sweden, who vanquished the Czech Republic. Poland made their way through Qatar 2022.

Since that tie is settled and Poland were drawn into a World Cup group next to Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia, CAS pronounced that the RFU decided to withdraw its appeal.

However, Russia’s bans, like the one from UEFA, is continuing.
