Ajax starlet Gravenberch promises not to leave Ajax on a free transfer

The Dutchman, whose deal expires in 2023, has spoken out about the continuing rumors over his future.

Ryan Gravenberch has pledged not to leave Ajax on a free transfer, despite reports connecting him with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Gravenberch rose through Ajax's youth academy system before progressing to the senior team in 2018, at the age of 16 years and 130 days, becoming the club's youngest player to ever feature in the

Eredivisie

The Dutch playmaker has subsequently cemented himself as a major player of Erik ten Hag's team at Johan Cruyff ArenA, although his agreement ends in 18 months, and he has been linked with a number of prominent European clubs.

According to reports, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are spearheading the battle for the 19-year-old, who has vowed not to let his current contract with Ajax expire due to his admiration for the club.

“It is with my agent and my father. I don't know if I'll be leaving next summer," Gravenberch told

Algemeen Dagblad

when probed on his future. "What I do know for sure is that I will not leave if Ajax does not earn anything from me.

"I played here all my childhood. Ajax has always been good to me. I owe a lot to the club. So I can't leave on a free transfer. That will not happen.”

Gravenberch can see himself continuing at Ajax for at least another two seasons, but he would welcome the chance to take on a fresh challenge outside of his birthplace if a move could be made sooner.

"On the other hand, it's not bad to step out of your comfort zone," he added. "A different competition, a different football, a different way of life, different people around you. But that could also be done at 22, for example.

“I know my own qualities and, if it happens next summer, I feel ready for that. But it is far from happening yet."

Gravenberch has played in 92 games for Ajax in all competitions, netting 10 goals.

He also has 11 assists to his name, as well as two Eredivisie championships and two

KNVB Cups

Gravenberch's development as a senior Netherlands international has been aided by Ajax, with the teenager having 10 caps and one goal to his name.
