Martial on leaving Man Utd: "I chose Sevilla to enjoy football again"

Anthony Martial left Manchester United for Sevilla as a loanee, with the attacker undergoing "economic sacrifices" to complete the move.

Anthony Martial stated that he wishes to "enjoy football again" after departing from Manchester United on loan.

On Tuesday, Sevilla confirmed the temporary acquisition of France international Anthony Martial, who will play in

LaLiga

until the season's conclusion.

While the financial details of the transaction have not been released, it is expected that Sevilla paid about €6 million, which includes Martial's wage as well as a loan payment.

Man Utd reportedly wanted the forward's reputed £240,000-a-week (€287,000) salaries funded in full, so Sevilla sporting director

Monchi

seemed to indicate Martial accepted a pay reduction to get the move done.

Ralf Rangnick, the Red Devil's interim manager, said last month that Martial sought an exit given a lack of first-team opportunities — he has just played the full 90 minutes of a game this season and has only appeared for eight minutes since Rangnick took over in early December.

Martial believes that regaining delight is his first objective.

"For me, it was just about the feeling I had with the manager [Julen Lopetegui], and I decided that at the moment I wanted to come to Sevilla," he told Sevilla's media channels.

"I spoke with him [Lopetegui] a few times, he was very excited to see me coming here to play.

"For me, it's a good club. Whatever, it's not just about money, it's to play and enjoy. That's it, that's why I chose to come here: to play and enjoy football again.

"I feel excited, it's a good club in Spain. I come to help and do a great job. I know they have good players, I'm just coming to help, give my best and try to win a trophy for the fans."

Monchi praised Martial for wanting to make the transfer possible during a behind-the-scenes clip of his arrival and presentation to the club.

"Thank you, in front of the president and vice president, for the effort you made to come here," he said.

"For us, it's important that a player wants to come here, but even more so that they want to come so much they make some economic sacrifices. It's an honour for us."

After the international break, Martial might make his Sevilla debut against Osasuna.

He joins the club in second place in LaLiga, four points behind toppers Real Madrid, with Lopetegui's side trying to overcome the odds and win the league for the first time since 1945-46.

They compete in Europe as well, facing Dinamo Zagreb in the

Europa League

knockout stage play-offs next month, with the final to be placed in Sevilla's Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan venue in May.
