Roma & Italy still have to wait for Spinazzola's return
The bad news for Roma and Italy is that Leonardo Spinazzola will not play in the World Cup qualifiers in March following his extended recuperation time.
Until his gruesome setback in the quarter-final against Belgium, the left-back had been the player of
UEFA Euro 2020
.
He was sprinting when the Achilles tendon snapped, and he abruptly stopped.
He went to London with the rest of the group, although on crutches, to partake in the euphoria following their Final triumph over England at Wembley Stadium.
Spinazzola was expected to return in February, allowing him to participate for Italy in the World Cup play-offs against North Macedonia and, hopefully, Portugal or Turkey in March.
In a media briefing, though, AS Roma manager
Jose Mourinho
stressed that the medical team would fall on the side of precaution.
"What insane person said Spinazzola would be back in November? It's a very serious injury, it's impossible to recover that quickly. From the first day, I assumed Spinazzola wouldn't be available this season."
Spinazzola's check-up with the professor who conducted the operation has also been rescheduled, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
All of this suggests that Spinazzola will not be able to return to the field until March.
