Napoli expected to face travel ban due to new Covid-19 cases

After Alex Meret and another staff member came back positive for COVID-19, Napoli are more likely to be quarantined and barred from traveling to Turin for the match against Juventus.

The Partenopei have a flight scheduled for 16.00 GMT today. Still, the local health authorities (ASL) are more likely to prohibit them from traveling owing to the COVID epidemic among the group.

The ASL is now reviewing the matter and will release a statement at 13.00 GMT, according to Radio Kiss Kiss.

As of today, seven members in the matchday roster are positive, including goalie

Alex Meret

and another member of staff.

They join Kevin Malcuit, Mario Rui, Victor Osimhen, Hirving Lozano, and coach Luciano Spalletti.

In the meantime,

Eljif Elmas

has recovered, but he is still likely to miss this clash.

It would be a spectacular re-enactment of the drama that unfolded in October 2020, when Napoli were barred from traveling to Turin following two COVID-19 instances.

Napoli was deducted a point and given an automatic 3-0 defeat at first but won their second appeal and established a legal precedent that the ASL may overrule the normal football practice.

The spread of COVID-19 among Serie A teams is causing consternation since the Lega

Serie A

has thus far refused to call off games, even when the ASL prohibits squads from traveling.
