Gasperini pens contract extension at Atalanta

The Atalanta president pronounced that manager Gian Piero Gasperini has already penned a new deal that will keep him until 2024 and it includes an option to extend for another year.

Gian Piero Gasperini

has taken over

Atalanta

in 2016 and considering the

Serie A

standards, he is already an unusually long-running coach.

His deal was due to reach its expiration date when the season ended and it led to rumors of a move away to the

Premier League

or another Serie A club.

However, having led Atalanta away from relegation fights and helping them play in the Champions League regularly for three years, Gasperini is focused on his side.

Today we signed the extension of the contract with Gian Piero Gasperini,”

announced President

Luca Percassi

on

Sky Sport Italia

.

“He is at the centre of the project and he will continue to be until 2024, with an option to extend for the 2024-25 season.

“It was something we had agreed over the summer, but this morning we finalised the paperwork. Gasperini is the right person for our project.”

Atalanta vanquished Venezia in a thumping 4-0 game to complete their fourth consecutive victory in Serie A. They have beaten

Juventus

in an away game for the first time since 1989.

Gasperini has coached 259 matches as the Atalanta manager, delivering 136 victories, 65 draws and 57 losses.
