Pochettino ‘angry’ after Messi, Mbappe & Neymar misfire against Rennes

The former Barcelona star, the France international and the Brazilian were all having their off day against Rennes as the Ligue 1 side suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat.

Mauricio Pochettino

was "frustrated and disappointed" after

PSG

did not meet the back of the net during their battle against

Rennes

which came down to a 2-0 loss for the Ligue 1 giants.

Paris Saint-Germain’s eight-game winning streak has come to an end as Gaetan Laborde and Flavien Tait found the back of the net for their side.

PSG attempted to net 13 times but failed to deliver past goalkeeper Alfred Gomis, with

Kylian Mbappe

’s second-half strike being ruled out as offside by VAR.

Pochettino also started

Lionel Messi

, who attempted five shots, with the most notable hitting the crossbar.

"

I don't think we can look at our system. We played 25 of our best minutes of the season [in the first half],"

Pochettino said at his post-match news conference.

"We didn't start the game well, but we then had 25 or 30 minutes of good quality football. It was a shame not to capitalise.

"We then had two psychological blows, conceding just before and just after half-time. The match was then open. We created chances but had a hard time.

"Rennes grew in confidence and we started to become frustrated."

PSG’s loss was Messi’s first after making a move to France over the summer, and the Argentine star still hasn’t scored a goal for his side in Ligue 1.

The France international, on the other hand, has had 17 shots since he last scored in Ligue 1.

Despite Messi, Mbappe, and Angel Di Maria playing the full 90 minutes,

Neymar

was substituted off 14 minutes from time.

Pochettino did not point blame at players or individuals, but he rather accepted it himself.

"

When we won against Man City, it was down to a collective effort,"

he said.

"The first person in charge is me. What we did for 25 minutes was of very high quality.

"We must extend that to 90 minutes. I am satisfied with one sector – we created a lot of situations and opportunities."

Those 13 attempts PSG made to score a goal are the club’s highest in Ligue 1 after Opta found such data in 2006-07.

Pochettino believes a lack of cutting edge was the problem rather than fatigue following the match against Manchester City.

Asked if he was feeling frustrated, Pochettino said:

"Yes, a bit. Nobody likes to lose games. We can't underestimate what Rennes did, but we are frustrated and disappointed.

"We had chances to score and then conceded a couple of goals. Situations like this leave us bitter and disappointed.

"But it's not to do with playing in midweek. We've had five days since then. I repeat, we played 30 minutes of good football today.

"We had control of the game and conceded when on top. We were immediately 2-0 down in the second half and then it's a different game."
