Women's Euro 2022 prize money doubled by UEFA
The competition will be held next summer in England, and although the Euro 2017 tournament prize money stood at €8m, all 16 qualified countries for the finals next year will now take a share of a newly-approved €16m prize pot.
According to
UEFA.com, the organization’s Executive Committee met yesterday in Chişinău (Moldova) and approved a substantial increase in the amount distributed to the participating teams, along with a new distribution model.
The committee announced on Thursday that the financial distribution will include increased guaranteed amounts and performance-based bonuses for the group stage, which means the 16 qualified teams will share a total of €16 million.
The qualified countries for Women’s Euro 2020 are England (hosts), Germany, Netherlands (holders), Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Belgium, Iceland, Spain, Finland, Austria, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, and Northern Ireland.
On 28 October, the group stage draw for the tournament will be held in Manchester while the opening game will see England play at Old Trafford on 6 July 2022, with the final at Wembley on 31 July.
In addition to the doubled prize, UEFA has approved a benefits programme for European clubs whose players are called up for the tournament, meaning an extra €4.5m will be distributed to clubs to recognize their contributions in making the competition a success.
Old Trafford (Manchester), Academy Stadium (Manchester), Leigh Sports Village (Manchester), Brentford Community Stadium (London), Wembley (London), Bramall Lane (Sheffield), St Mary’s (Southampton), Amex Stadium (Brighton), Stadium MK (Milton Keynes), and New York Stadium (Rotherham) are the venues that the event will hold the event this summer.
