Neymar: What more can I do to get more respect?

After finding the net and providing an assist in Brazil's 2-0 triumph against Peru, PSG's Neymar pointed the finger at his naysayers.

After setting another milestone to help Brazil remain undefeated in World Cup qualification, Neymar claimed that he is not given the credit he deserves.

In a 2-0 win over Peru in Recife on Thursday, the Paris Saint-Germain striker scored a tap-in after setting up Everton Ribeiro.

That was the Selecao's eighth victory in eight games on the route to Qatar 2022 and their ninth consecutive qualifying wins overall, tying the CONMEBOL record for the longest winning run.

With his goal, Neymar surpassed

Romario

and

Zico

as Brazil's top scorer in World Cup qualifiers, with 12 goals, half of which came this season.

He's also only eight goals shy of iconic striker

Pele's 77 goals

for Brazil, having scored 69 goals in 113 games.

But, after receiving further criticism after Brazil's 1-0 success over Chile last week, with some claiming he was overweight, Neymar has retaliated.

"Obviously, the team is the most important," he told TV Globo.

"I'm very happy to be the top scorer in the qualifiers, have the most assists for the national team and soon, if all goes well, it will be an honour to pass Pele as the all-time scorer.

"I don't know anymore what I have to do for people to respect me. This is normal, it's been a long time. Reporters, commentators, others too.

"Sometimes I don't even like to talk in interviews anymore, but at an important moment I come to show up. I leave it to the guys to think a little bit."

Brazil has now kept nine straight clean sheets at home, becoming the first South American team to do so in qualification history.

Tite's side are six points ahead of Argentina, who thrashed Bolivia 3-0 due to a hat-trick from

Lionel Messi

, and are on the brink of securing their ticket to Qatar 2022.

Brazil, whose high-profile encounter against Argentina was comically stopped early in the game last Sunday, will return to the field in early October when they go to bottom-placed Venezuela.
