Ederson looking forward to replace De Bruyne in Man City's midfield

The Brazilian goalie is thought to possess technical abilities that would enable him to play farther up the pitch.

Ederson

, the Manchester City goalkeeper, jested that he would happily accept the chance to supplant

Kevin De Bruyne

in the Blues' midfield, stating that such a switch would "not change anything."

Since his lucrative transfer to the Etihad Stadium in 2017, a Golden Glove-winning 28-year-old has had his skill sets lauded on a regular basis.

Cityzens have a history of using goalkeepers out of position, with

Stuart Pearce

memorably bringing

David James

off the seat as an attacker in a final-day match against Middlesbrough in 2005, and Ederson claims he would be willing to follow in the footsteps of the ex-England international.

Ederson has told

CityTV

when addressing James' cameo against Boro:

"If I were to go outfield like this, I would not ask to be a striker.

"I would prefer to play in the midfield. In Kevin's place!

"If I were to choose, if someone asked me to play, I would say: 'Take off De Bruyne and play me!' It would not change anything!"

Pep Guardiola does not look to be the type of manager to take excessive risks or make rash selection decisions; therefore, Ederson's prospects of filling an outfield position for City are slim.

It's possible, though, that a South American superstar will be given a chance to establish himself on the spot at some point.

City's penalty-taking woes have been well-documented in recent years, with calls for Ederson to be given a shot becoming louder.

He is one of the sharpest attackers on the Blues' roster, and while not revealing much about his technique, he keeps no secret of his desire for a chance at goal from 12 yards.

Ederson continued when questioned on how he would take a penalty:

"I don't know. It depends on the game, what the game brings.

"Of course the pressure is higher it it's 0-0. In a penalty shooutout as well. But if you're winning 3-0 and there's a penalty, the player is much more relaxed.

"But I don't know how I would take it. But I can't say anyway. I haven't taken a single one and I won't be giving hints for the opponents. I hope someday it happens and you will see."
