Barcelona need to register only two contracts before La Liga opener

The injury of Sergio Aguero has provided the Catalans with extra time to register the contracts of their new signings.

Barcelona

announced

on Thursday that Lionel Messi won’t sign a new contract at Camp Nou. According to Barcelona president Joan Laporta, the Catalans were not able to register Messi’s contract due to La Liga’s financial requirements.

The Blaugrana have signed four new players this summer, but they are yet to register their contracts. The contracts of

Sergio Aguero

,

Memphis Depay

,

Eric Garcia

, and

Emerson Royal

will have to be registered by Friday if the Catalans want to include the players in their squad for the season opener against Real Sociedad. However, with the injury of Aguero, Barcelona will be able to register the contracts of Depay and Royal for their first match, while Garcia is expected to join the team later due to being present at the Olympics.

The final deadline for including the players will be September 1. If the club don’t manage to register a player by then, they will have to wait until January for the next transfer window.

Following their 3-0 win over Juventus in the match for the Joan Gamper trophy, Barcelona will face Real Sociedad in the first match of their 2021-22 La Liga campaign.
