Al-Masatfa, a 25-year-old medical student, won all of his fights in Pool B to secure his place in the semi-final against his Turkish opponent Eray Samdan who defeated the Jordan international 2-0.

In his path, Al-Masatfa defeated Kalvis Kalnins from Latvia 8-3, and then he faced Steven DeCosta from France in a game that ended 7-4 in Jordan’s favor. He also defeated an opponent from the Refugee Olympic Team’s Hamoon Derafshipour (3-0) and Colombia’s Andres Madera Delgado (4-1).

Jordan has sent 14 athletes to the Tokyo games, which is a record for them, and they have two medals which could have been three, but their -91kg boxer Hussein Ishaish lost in the quarter-final of his bout earlier in the Games.
