Gravenberch: Being compared to Pogba doesn’t put me under pressure

The Ajax star has been linked with a move away from Johan Cruyff Arena in recent weeks.

Ryan Gravenberch

has established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe. The 19-year-old broke through Ajax’s senior squad last season and managed to make 47 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s side. The Netherlands international says being compared to great footballers does not put him under extra pressure.

“I see people comparing me to such celebrities as a compliment and doesn't put me under any extra pressure,"

he said to

De Telegraaf

.

"I think I should try to be myself. Ten years from now, if young footballers are told they look like Ryan Gravenberch, then I've done well in my career."

Gravenberch scored three goals and provided five assists in his 32 league games last season. The Dutch midfielder hopes to continue his development in the upcoming season.

"As a midfielder in an attacking team like Ajax you have to score more than three goals,"

he said.

"That is obvious. Especially if your team scores 102 times. Around the penalty area I have to shoot earlier and more often. And it is important that I get into the 18-yard area more often."

He added:

"Now that I have won the Johan Cruyff Award as the greatest talent in the Eredivisie, I am finished with talent. I also want to win the Golden Shoe. And I'm going to do my best to achieve that goal.

"But the team interest always comes before the individual interest. That is why becoming champions, winning the cup and spending the winter in the Champions League are the most important goals."

According to

Goal.com

,

Liverpool

have been linked with a summer move for Gravenberch as they are looking to find a replacement for

Georginio Wijnaldum

. However, the player is expected to stay at the Dutch club due to his key role in Ten Hag’s lineup.
