Chelsea fans need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative Covid

Chelsea have announced that fans are required to provide proof of double vaccination or a negative Covid test before going to games this season.

Chelsea

have decided to only let fans with proof of double vaccination or a negative Covid test into the Stamford Bridge or Kingsmeadow stadiums this season. They believe this protocol will lower the chance of transmitting Covid.

"This is to increase the safety and comfort of our supporters, players, and staff as we begin hosting capacity crowds for the first time since March last year,”

the club stated on Wednesday morning.

Chelsea fans need to have their second vaccination shot at least two weeks before the game or they need to provide proof of a negative lateral flow test taken within 48 hours of the game. These then will be checked by stewards before they enter the stadium.

Their announcement was only after a couple of days since PA Media reported that the government and the Premier League were working on a proposal that would prevent fans who are not vaccinated from going to games.

Other reports last week suggested that the new policy will be adopted at all large sporting venues from the end of September.

Checks similar to Chelsea’s were also in place at other sporting events this summer, including Euro 2020 games at Wembley and The Open in Kent.

Football Supporters' Association (FSA) chairman Malcolm Clarke believes that mandatory vaccination could cause chaos at some cubs as he said last weekend, however, vaccines minister Naghim Zahawi do not think like Clarke as he told the House of Commons that "as a condition of entry" to spectator sports events "people will need to show that they are fully vaccinated and proof of (a) negative test will not suffice."
