Official: Brighton’s Jahanbakhsh joins Feyenoord permanently

After a three-year spell with the Seagulls, the 27-year-old winger has returned to Eredivisie signing a three-year contract with Feyenoord. During his first spell in Eredivisie with NEC and AZ Alkmaar, the Iran international made 112 appearances, scoring 39 goals and picking 31 assists.

After a $20.90m club-record move to

Brighton

 in 2018

, the Persian midfielder failed to live up to the promises

as several injuries and competition from Leandro Trossard, Neal Maupay, Danny Welbeck, Aaron Connolly, and Andi Zeqiri kept Alireza Jahanbakhsh out of Brighton’s starting squad. Iranian international made just 25 appearances in all competitions last season.

However, with a return to the Netherlands, both the Dutch club and the player are optimistic that he can rediscover the form which saw Albion bring him over to England.

Confirming Jahanbakhsh’s departure, Albion head coach

Graham Potter

said: “Ali has been a very good professional and great to work with, but this move is a good one and gives him the chance of more regular game time, which is not something we are able to guarantee.

“I’d like to thank Ali for his hard work during my time here and wish him all the best for the future.”

Feyenoord confirmed the news by stating that Jahanbakhsh will wear the number nine shirt for his new club. They announced the signature via a video on

their official Twitter account

, captioned: “#Alireza9 confirmed!”

Jahanbakhsh can make his debut for the Eredivisie side when they face PAOK on July 25.
