Everton boss Benitez eyes Barcelona’s Lenglet

Rafael Benitez was appointed as Everton manager, replacing Carlo Ancelotti.

Rafael Benitez

’s arrival at Goodison Park hints that there will be some changes made in the summer and as per reports from

Diario Sport

, the Spaniard is eager to strengthen the

Everton

defence.

Benitez plans to acquire

Clement Lenglet

’s services from

Barcelona

and assign him as his rearguard’s leader, which will be crucial in helping Everton get back to European competition after several years of sitting in the middle of the Premier League table.

Lenglet did not have a productive year with the Blaugrana in the 2020-21 season but he proved his potential at Euro 2020 with France. A move to another club may be beneficial for the 26-year-old and Barcelona are keen on cashing in on many of their players to reduce the wage cap as their dealing with a financial crisis.

The France international would be next to Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate as Benitez’s squad of centre-backs with the new Everton manager considering selling Yerry Mina. Benitez’s other option is

Napoli

defender

Kalidou Koulibaly

.
