Junior Firpo joins Leeds United on undisclosed fee

The Barcelona full-back will replace the departed Ezgjan Alioski in the Leeds squad.

Leeds United

have completed the signing of

Junior Firpo

from Barcelona. Firpo joins the peacocks on a four-year deal ahead of the next season as he ends his two-year stay at Camp Nou.

"Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of Junior Firpo"

the club announced on their official

website

.

"The Whites have beaten off competition from a number of clubs to secure the services of the 24-year-old, who joins from Spanish outfit FC Barcelona for an undisclosed fee.

"Following a period of quarantine and completion of his medical, the full-back signed a four-year deal at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2025.

"

Following the departures of Jean Clair-Todibo, Konrad de la Fuente, and Matheus Fernandes, Firpo is the fourth Barcelona player to leave the team as part of the club's efforts to reduce their wage bill. The transfer was completed on an undisclosed fee. However, according to

RAC1

, Barcelona will receive a transfer fee of around €15 million for the Spaniard.

Firpo moved to Barcelona from

Real Betis

in 2019, but he failed to live up to expectations at Camp Nou. The 24-year-old was signed to become Jordi Alba’s long-term replacement, but he managed to feature in only 41 appearances during his two-year stay at the Spanish side.

Barcelona are interested in signing Valencia’s

Jose Gaya

for the left-back position. However, securing a deal for the 26-year-old will not be easy as he has two years left on his current contract.
