Barcelona defender on the verge of joining Leeds United

Junior Firpo is expected to sign a contract with the Peacocks in the coming days.

Junior Firpo

continued to struggle for game time last season as the appointment of Ronald Koeman as Barcelona’s coach did not change his situation within the squad. Since his move from Real Betis to Barcelona two years ago, the young left-back has featured in only 24 games for the Spanish giants.

According to

Diario AS,Leeds United

are close to signing Firpo with a €15million deal. Betis will reportedly claim 15% of the fee as they have put a sell-on clause in the player’s contract. Barcelona brought Firpo to Camp Nou with an €18million deal in 2019, but the player failed to live up to expectations. Firpo was mainly used as

Jordi Alba

’s back-up at Barcelona, but he might get his chance to play regularly at Leeds United.

Barcelona are desperate to raise funds to sign their summer targets. Dealing with financial issues, the Blaugrana are also rumored to be interested in selling Alba to bring

Jose Gaya

to Camp Nou. The club are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea’s

Marcos Alonso

as Firpo’s replacement ahead of the next season.
