‘I ask the Spanish fans to keep trusting us’ – Pedri Gonzalez
Spain youngster Pedri has asked La Roja fans to keep faith in the team despite their frustrating goalless draw against Sweden in their Euro 2020 opener on Monday night.
Spain were hotly tipped to begin their Group E campaign with a win in Sevilla up against
Janne Andersson
’s
Sweden
at the Estadio de La Cartuja.
But despite dominating possession during the full 90 minutes, they were held to a 0-0 draw.
Pedri
was called up for La Roja for the first time in March and was chosen to start against Sweden in Sevilla ahead of more experienced midfielders like
Thiago
and
Fabian Ruiz
.
“I am happy to make my debut, it has been a dream, but I am sad to draw the game, we have played a great and created chances”,
he told a post-match interview with
Marca.
The 18-year-old still believes the squad will bounce back in their upcoming games.
“If we continue to play games like this, having the ball and creating chances, then the goals will come.
“I ask the Spanish fans to keep trusting us, as we are a great team.”
Luis Enrique
’s side will face
Poland
, who lost their own opening group game, in their second group game this weekend.
Pedri looks certain to keep his place for that game but Enrique could rotate his starting lineup.
