Madueke reveals how PSV helped him ‘get ahead of English peers'

Despite attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea., the forward left Tottenham for the Dutch giants in 2018 and believes his decision has proved invaluable for his development as a player.

On international duty for England Under-21s, Madueke told reporters: "Obviously it's been great for my development. I wanted to go out and play first-team football at a young age and get ahead of my peers.

"I've done that by getting into the England Under-21 squad and so on and so forth. The move was perfect for me at the time."

The 19-year-old revealed he found motivation in Jadon Sancho’s development in Dortmund. He continued: "[Sancho] has opened the eyes to other talents.

“A year after him, I went from Spurs to PSV. The plan that I had in mind then is now working out the way I intended it.

"In England, it is very difficult as a young talent to get into the first team, especially at the bigger clubs. The squads are very large and there is little room for youngsters. They often stay in reserve teams for a long time or are loaned out.

"There is little flow or chance to break through. That is completely different in the Netherlands."
