Man Utd sign an extension with Mengi on loan at Derby

The Red Devils have put pen to paper for a new three-and-a-half-year contract with Teden Mengi who is away on a loan deal at Derby County.

Teden Mengi

, who had his debut for

Manchester United

in the 2019-2020

Europa League

clash against LASK Linz, has signed a contract that will keep him until 2024. His deal also has a 12 months additional option.

Wayne Rooney

, once the United legend and the current

Derby

boss, relied on his connection with his former club to bring the 18-year-old to Pride Park where he can have more game time in the

Championship

.

He has played in six games since joining Derby and was named man of the match by supporters on social media following a clean sheet against

Barnsley

in March.

Rooney hailed him for his impressive performance on

Rams TV

:

"I have tried a three at the back few times, but tonight was the best we performed it.

"Teden Mengi was excellent in the middle of the three centre-backs and I thought Craig Forsyth - his first game for a while - did well and Kelle Roos was excellent in goal."

United made a statement, reading:

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that Teden Mengi has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until June 2024, with the option to extend for a further year.

"The England Under-19 international has captained United throughout the age groups and has been regularly praised for his mentality."
