Spanish football lost more than €1billion due to Coronavirus pandemic

The Coronavirus has damaged the sporting world financially and Spanish football has been particularly badly hit.

Since the Covid-19 was spread across the continent in March 2020, fans have not been to stadiums across the top two divisions.

As remarked by

El Mundo Deportivo

, financial research from PricewaterhouseCoopers, and sanctioned by La Liga, has reported that teams throughout the top two divisions could lose over €1billion due to the pandemic.

In the best-case scenario, €825m will be lost across the board but in the worst-case scenario, €1,029m will be gone across the teams.

This is regardless of the team’s vast reduction of their outgoings, besides limiting transfer activity and trying to raise funds by player sales.

The team’s have lost out on receiving a total of €2,013m – more than €2billion – across the two seasons: €366m in the 19/20 season and €1,647m in the 2020/21 campaign.
