Athletic Bilbao approve team's wide salary cuts in 2021

La Liga team, Athletic Bilbao have reached an emergency agreement on salary cuts at the club, because of the continuous financial pressure of the Coronavirus pandemic.

After spending months to decide the reduction, they have finally reached an agreement with the first-team members and coaching staff to endure a financial loss before the campaign ends.

stand beside Barca as the second Spanish top-flight team to have a salary cut at the beginning of the pandemic, with an initial 6% total wage reduction, which will preserve an estimated €6m for the team in 2020.

close the 2020/21 season.

An official team statement was released this week:

“The steps taken by the players, for the second in less than ten months, is an exercise of responsibility and commitment to the institution and its partners, which the club wishes to signify and publicly thank them for.”

Marcelino could achieve the team’s first title since 2015 since they defeated Barca in the Spanish Supercopa final back in January, but they are currently standing 10th in the league.
