James hails Silva as the biggest influence on his Chelsea career

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from PSG this summer, Silva established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the Chelsea squad, and Reece James is thankful for his presence as the Brazilian has taken him "under his wing" over the past few months.

Asked who has played the biggest role in his development at Chelsea to date, James told BBC Sport:

"I think, this season, Thiago Silva has probably influenced my career the most so far, just because he is well experienced and played at the very top of the game for the last 15 years.

"He has taken me under his wing, coached me and told me where I need to do better and where I am doing well."

Although the 21-year-old has bagged one goal and provided five assists in 21 games this season, Thomas Tuchel’s appointment has threatened his position as the German has adapted a 3-4-3 formation, replacing James with Callum Hudson-Odoi at wing-back.
