“We're absolutely gutted for Konstandopoulos” - Halloran

The Adelaide United midfielder is going to undergo surgery after sustaining a second ACL tear this season.

Nathan Konstandopoulos

,

Adelaide United

’s midfielder, is out of action for the rest of the

A-League

season following his second ACL tear. The 24-year-old has torn his left anterior cruciate ligament on the training ground one year after sustaining the same injury on his other knee.

The Australian midfielder will have surgery on Tuesday.

"

After working hard, coming back and scoring goals it pains me to say that after one year I have ruptured my other ACL

," Konstandopoulos said on Instagram.

"

I know the process, I know the grind, I know that I will be back stronger again.

"Nobody works as hard as me and I will prove it again. See you again in (nine) months better than ever."

He came back when the 2020-21 season started and met the target two times in seven games for his side.

Ben Halloran

, Reds’ winger, admitted that Konstandopoulos’ situation is not only devastating for his teammate but also for his side who are trying to end their three-game winless run.

"

We're absolutely gutted for him,

" Halloran said.

"

We don't have too many midfielders at the moment and when given a chance he's been great, scoring a couple of goals off the bench and when he's started, he's done really well as well.

"I think from that perspective as well, it's a massive loss."

Adelaide are set to go against

Central Coast

on Friday.
