Rudi Garcia says Lyon isn’t ‘critical enough’

Olympique Lyonnais suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Montpellier on Saturday that might prove to be costly to their title hopes.

Téji Savanier scored the match’s opener for Montpellier in the 20th minute. Although Lucas Paqueta scored the equalizer for the host, teenager Elye Wahi scored the winner for La Surdouée in the 65th minute.

“We could have scored twice in the first 30 seconds, then Montpellier came into the game and confiscated the ball. We got an equaliser and I thought we played quite well in the second half, but you need to be more clinical in these games,”

admitted

Garcia

.

“Montpellier didn’t have many chances but scored two goals. It just wasn’t our night and it is a setback.”

Although Lyon are just two points behind

Paris Saint-Germain

and

 LOSC

, the gap to the top will be five points if Lille beat Stade Brestois 29 on Sunday.

“We are in an endurance race and we couldn’t afford to drop points,”

Garcia

 added

. “Even a draw would not have been a good result.”

On the other end,

Michel Der Zakarian

cherished his side’s second victory in-a-row as they have climbed back into European contention all of a sudden.

“I thought we deserved to win,”

Der Zakarian

 said.

“When our key players are there it makes it easier. Téji Savanier did damage to Lyon in our last meeting and he did so again here.”
