Kyril Louis-Dreyfus close to taking over Sunderland

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is on the verge of completing his takeover of Sunderland, as the last checks of the purchase are being completed by the EFL.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus

was present when

Sunderland

were defeated by

Shrewsbury Town

with a 2-1 result on Tuesday as he takes his final steps in purchasing a majority stake in the club from Stewart Donald.

The French billionaire-heir made his first appearance since he pronounced that he wants to be The Stadium of Light owner.

Robert Louis-Dreyfus’s son said in December: "

In acquiring Sunderland, I understand the responsibility that's placed upon me as the custodian of the club's future.

"We want to create a team that is entertaining to watch…reconnecting the team with its fanbase, whose support will be so vital to our success.

"We are in the midst of a global pandemic but if we all play our part I firmly believe we can restore Sunderland to the top tier of English football and I can't wait to get started."

The club manager

Lee Johnson

said on Tuesday: "

I have been in contact with him [Louis-Dreyfus] since it became publicly known. I am really looking forward to working with him.

"It's what the club needs - it will give everybody a boost. The quicker they can get the takeover over the line, the better."

Sunderland’s loss has put them seventh in the League one table, eleven points adrift of the current leaders Lincoln City.
