Chapecoense secure their return to Brazil’s top flight

Chape have secured their Serie A promotion after suffering a relegation in 2019.

knowing that a victory will send them back to Brazil’s top flight. The team were able to stay for two seasons in the top flight after the team’s aircraft crashed in 2016 and killed all 71 people on board. However, the team was finally relegated to Serie B in 2019 and were shocked by their president’s death earlier this year.

who was the successor to Plinio David de Nes Filho died due to coronavirus and was not able to see his side’s return to Serie A for the upcoming season. After the team’s Tuesday match at Arena Conda, Chape published a statement on

"You can celebrate, fan. You can celebrate, president! With 66 points and four games left we have stamped our passport. Our return ticket. The beginning of another great story."
