Southampton shot-stopper tests positive for Covid-19

Alex McCarthy, Southampton’s shot-stopper, will not feature for his side on Monday in the Premier League clash against Liverpool due to the positive coronavirus test.

According to

Southampton

’s announcement,

Alex McCarthy

was tested positive for Covid-19 and will not appear in the clash against

Liverpool

. However, no other staff members and players were affected.

The club has posted about the issue on their Twitter account: “

Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed Alex McCarthy will miss the Liverpool game following a positive Covid-19 test.

“McCarthy is currently self-isolating at home, in line with government guidelines and club protocols

.”

hopes to be back after a long time of isolation due to a positive coronavirus test. The Saints’ coach has not been alongside his team in the clean sheet clash against

West Ham

last Tuesday.

McCarthy, who has joined Hasenhuttl’s side in 2016, has been a regular player this season and has kept seven clean sheets this season. Fraser Forster will probably replace him on Monday. Danny Ings’s return boosted Southampton in the clash against West Ham. He has previously missed the drawn clash with Fulham as he suffered a hamstring strain.
