Jets Captain Boogaard extended his contract

The Jets captain believes his team can do well this year.

Newcastle Jets captain Nigel Boogaard has extended his contract with the club for another year.

The 34-year-old has made 104 appearances for the Jets since returning to the club in 2015. He had had a very odd six years on this team, from the early days, when he had very poor performances, to reaching the grand final of the 2018 Australian League with the Jets. The focus of this experienced defender is to do his best for the club before deciding his future.

He told club's official website:

“I’m delighted, [I’m a] hometown boy and this is the club I always wanted to play for as a junior."

“I’m excited to have to go around again for one more year and represent this football community. There’s a great bunch of boys in there, we’re all together."

Boogaard then assured that his team could perform well this season. He said:

“I think we’ve been quite competitive through the [friendly] games that we’ve played already against some really good sides,” said the Newcastle-native.

“I’m looking forward to to the start of the season and, once the season starts, we’re confident we can pick up results.

“Hopefully that helps the supporters also see what’s possible this year."
