Aubameyang fined for telling a “hostage” joke!

According to Luke Bosher, the

Confederation of African Football

has decided to fine

player,

, for £7,400 ($10,000) after sharing social media posts, which the CAF considered them to be

"offensive and degrading"

.

Aubameyang social media posts were shared in November after his international team was asked to spend the night at the airport for

COVID-19

testing.

The Gunners player, tweeted on the incident, saying:

“Just want to know why Gambia took our passports for hours and they keep us at the airport, are we hostage or what?”

with crying laughing face emoji.

He then shared pictures of his teammates sleeping on the floor with the caption:

“Nice job CAF, it’s as if we were back in the 1990s.”

Then he posted:

“This will not demotivate us but people need to know and CAF need to take responsibility. (It’s) 2020 and we want Africa to grow but this is not how we will get there.”

CAF responded to the player actions stating:

“Mr. Pierre Emerick Emiliano Francois Aubameyang has publicly published offensive and degrading material that undermines the honor and image of the Confederation of African Football.”

“The CAF Disciplinary Board decided to impose a fine of 10,000 USD for breach of the values of sportsmanship and integrity on the Gabonese Football Federation for the regrettable behaviour of the player.”

Gambian FA

was also given a £74,000 ($100,000) fine with a two-year suspension.
