William joins the list of Liverpool defensive injury concerns

William has made his way back to Anfield after picking up a knock while away on international duty.

After

Rhys William

being sent home from the

England

Under-21 squad, he joined

Liverpool

’s list of defensive injury concerns.

William joined Liverpool’s senior squad in 2019 after eight years in the club’s youth set-up.

He has played in three Champions League games and two Carabao Cup fixtures for Liverpool this season and his style of playing is similar to

Virgil Van Dijk

.

Given that both Van Dijk and

Joe Gomez

could not play due to the injury, William had the opportunity to show his competence but his progress stopped.

"He had a very minor stiff hip," Boothroyd told reporters of William's condition. "It was in his best interests to get him back to Liverpool.

"With all the players, if there's any potential injuries or niggles then our medical staff is in contact with the club.

"Rhys wasn't actually on the bench so I thought the best thing was to get him back to Liverpool."

Klopp is facing an injury crisis and at the top of the table is competing with Leicester City on Sunday.

Liverpool are working on the fitness of captain

Jordan Henderson

and summer signing

Thiago Alcantara

too.
