Campbell: Arsenal's next transfer is up to Partey's performance

Arsenal paid the £45 million release clause of the Ghanaian midfielder and since then have enjoyed having a reliable option in their midfield as Partey has already become a key player in Mikel Arteta’s team. However many believe that Arsenal still lack creativity in their final third of the field and therefore need another player for further squad depth.

are the main favorites for a potential transfer but former club player Kevin Campbell believes that choosing another player for Arsenal’s midfield depends on the performance of the club’s new signing Thomas Partey.

“You could say, okay, if Thomas Partey is going to move a bit further forward, go out and get Ndidi to sit in there.

“No problem, but it just depends, you can either get an Aouar who gets further forward, or you get an Ndidi type so that Partey can do box to box.”

When the Frenchman was asked about Partey’s role as a Holding midfielder, he responded:

“Holding midfielder? No, Partey is much more than that. He proved that emphatically with some incisive play that suggested a useful understanding could quickly develop with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“Without wishing to get carried away, Partey brought back memories of Patrick Vieira. For the first time since the majestic Frenchman’s time, the Gunners may now boast a dominant force in the middle of the park who can change a game as well as mix it physically.”
