Scaloni extends his contract with Argentina until the end of the 2026 World Cup

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni extends his contract with Albiceleste through the 2026 World Cup.

After helping Argentina win two major trophies, Lionel Scaloni has extended his contract with them and will lead Albiceleste until the end of the upcoming World Cup, where they will defend their 2022 World Cup title.

Scaloni led Argentina to a Copa America title in 2021. Obviously, having Lionel Messi on his team helped him a lot. Messi and Scaloni teamed up once again a year later leading Argentina to the 2022 World Cup title in Qatar in brilliant fashion.

This was Argentina’s third World Cup trophy and their first since 1986 when Maradona led them to victory in Mexico.

Scaloni himself proved to be a tactically sound in Qatar. He showed a lot of flexibility when it came to choosing his tactics in the World Cup. But it didn’t hurt to have Lionel Messi in his side, who scored seven goals and provided three assists in the tournament.

Scaloni’s contract had expired following the World Cup, but with this renewal, he is set to helm Argentina in the next Copa America as well as the next World Cup, barring any disasters.

The Argentine tactician was undoubtedly an underdog choice when he took over the position at Argentina in 2018. However, he has proven himself to be one of the best coaches in the world and has been nominated for the FIFA Best Men’s Coach for 2022, alongside Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
