Atletico’s De Paul ruled out of the Madrid derby due to a thigh injury

After being forced off the field during Atletico's La Liga victory over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, the club confirms their Argentine midfielder will be sidelined further due to a thigh injury ahead of their crucial clash with Real Madrid this weekend.

Rodrigo De Paul, who won the World Cup with his country this winter, sustained a thigh injury in Atletico's victory over Athletic Bilbao as the club confirmed the news.

"Rodrigo De Paul is suffering from a thigh injury, according to the medical tests he has undergone after ended up with muscular problems the match against Athletic Bilbao," read an official statement.

"The midfielder will begin to receive physiotherapy sessions, rehabilitation training and is pending evolution."

Atletico Madrid managed to win over Athletic Club in a La Liga match on Sunday thanks to Griezmann's goal in the 73rd minute. Mattress Makers are now in fourth place in the La Liga table with a 2 points difference from Real Sociedad. They will be looking to turn their La Liga season around by winning the crucial derby on Saturday.
